SUMMARY:Coding & Cupcakes: Kansas City Kids Conference
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the third annual Kansas City Kids Conference this summer! This fun and mentor-led conference is designed just for elementary\, middle\, and early high school students to explore their interest in technology. \nAs part of the Kansas City Developer Conference\, your student can attend free tech programs such as Kansas City Women in Technology’s popular CoderDojoKC and Coding & Cupcakes. \nWe will have a maker space with DIY wearable tech\, paper circuits and conductive thread. \nWe will have a whole host of focused sessions such as: \n\nGame-building with Bloxels\nLego robotics\nInteractive audio with Makey Makey\nSpheros\nOzobots\nBristlebots…\n\n… And we are excited to include other possible advanced special sessionsthat touch on Artificial Intelligence\, Minecraft mods and Pokemon Raspberry Pi. \nMany but not all sessions will be best experienced with a laptop computer or tablet. We will have a limited number of laptops and tablets available on a first-come\, first-served basis in person on the day. If you are able to bring your own laptop or tablet\, please do. \nWhether your student is new to coding or has been involved in coding classes for years\, Kansas City Kids Conference offers beginner and advanced projects to keep your student learning this summer. \nFAQs \nI am a monthly attendee of CoderDojoKC or Coding & Cupcakes. How will this session be different? \nWe will run CoderDojoKC and Coding & Cupcakes as a series of mini sessions throughout the conference\, rather than as continuous sessions. Your student is welcome to stay with us the whole time and keep working on their projects. But you also have the opportunity to explore many other sessions at the conference. Though we will have plenty of seats in the CoderDojoKC and Coding & Cupcaked sessions\, you are not reserving a CoderDojoKC or Coding & Cupcakes seat with your conference ticket. \nThis month’s Coding & Cupcakes session will involve building websites by writing HTML\, CSS and JavaScript. \nWhat are my parking options? \nWe recommend the Barney Allis parking garage\, located adjacent to the conference center. \nWhat should I bring into the event? \nPlease bring a laptop or tablet if you have one available. Not all of our activities require a device\, and we do have a limited number of devices available to borrow on a first-come\, first-served basis in person on the day. If you need a loaner laptop at an activity but they are all in use\, please let our volunteers know and we will reserve one for you in the next available session. \nYou are welcome to bring snacks. Lunch will be provided. \nDo parents need to stay the entire time? \nIf your child is under 13 years old\, please make sure that you have an adult attending throughout. \nDo I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? \nNo. We can look you up by name. But a printed ticket with QR code can help speed check-in. \nIs it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn’t match the person who attends? \nYes. But for the sake of our demographic data\, please answer signup questions as the student attending.

SUMMARY:Coding & Cocktails: The Glass | Front-end Architecture & HTML
DESCRIPTION:The Glass | Front-End Architecture & HTML \nJoin us for our monthly coding series\, Coding & Cocktails. Women are invited to attend sessions to get an introduction to website building in a fun\, laid-back atmosphere. \nHTML is the foundation of the web. It provides structure for web pages and helps you to build the page content. Front-end architecture is the organization of code and project files. The combination of these two concepts provides the structure and the bones of a website. Or if you’re creating a cocktail\, it’s the glass that holds your cocktail together. \nJoin us to learn about what tags and elements are\, how to structure your front-end architecture and why all of this matters. You’ll also get to try building out a web page with HTML on your own\, with support from our fantastic mentors! \nThere will be lots of guidance and support for those with little to no coding experience so come join the fun! \n\nNo coding experience necessary (we mean that!)\nWifi-enabled laptop is required. Don’t have one? Request to borrow one of ours when you sign up. (Sorry\, Chromebooks are not supported.)\nMust be at least 21 to attend\nCocktails\, non-alcoholic beverages\, and dinner served\nPlease familiarize yourself with Kansas City Women in Technology’s Code of Conduct.\n\nDo you need financial assistance to attend? View codingandcocktails.kcwomenintech.org/financialaid for more information. \nIf you are unable to attend\, you must cancel 48 hours prior to the event to receive a refund!

SUMMARY:Coding & Cocktails: The Rocks | Command Line & Version Control
DESCRIPTION:The Rocks | Command Line & Version Control\n  \nJoin us for our monthly coding series\, Coding & Cocktails. Women are invited to attend sessions to get an introduction to website building in a fun\, laid-back atmosphere. \nWe will get comfortable using the command line\, a powerful tool developers use to work efficiently\, to navigate the filesystem in a text-based way. We will also learn about version control and how it helps developers maintain code history and work collaboratively. \nThese concepts are not limited to web development — they are basic building blocks of the development process regardless of the technology stack. Or if you’re creating a cocktail\, it’s the rocks (ice) that binds all the ingredients together in a supporting role. Of course we will also have the help of our awesome mentors! \nThere will be lots of guidance and support for those with no coding experience so come join the fun! \n\nNo coding experience necessary (we mean that!)\nWifi-enabled laptop is required (don’t have one? Borrow one of ours)\nMust be at least 21 to attend\nCocktails\, non-alcoholic beverages\, and light dinner served\nPlease familiarize yourself with Kansas City Women in Technology’s Code of Conduct.\n\nDo you need financial assistance to attend? View codingandcocktails.kcwomenintech.org/financialaid for more information. \nIf you are unable to attend\, you must cancel 48 hours prior to the event to receive a refund!
