DESCRIPTION:HackEDkc is a student hackathon where students are challenged to solve a problem in their home\, school\, or community through the use of technology. Students from Liberty Public Schools and Kansas City Metro will have 24 hours to build their solution and will have 3 minutes to demo to a panel of judges. Work will be judged on technical efficacy\, community impact\, and innovation. \nGeneral Rules\n1. Teams of 3-6 (no exceptions) can be formed before or during the event. \n2. Mothers and daughters are invited to attend sessions to learn about code and how to build websites together. \n\nOne wifi-enabled laptop between each mom and daughter is required.\nThe only age requirement is the ability to read\, type\, and use a mouse.\nDelicious cupcakes from BabyCakes will be provided for coding fuel!\n\n  \nDads\, we love you\, but this session is for mother & daughter teams only!  It will be a fun\, easy introduction to coding\, so please encourage the ladies in your life to attend.

SUMMARY:Digital Learning Day 2014
DESCRIPTION:Digital Learning Day at the Kansas City Public Library encourages youth\, parents\, and educators to experience hands-on digital learning through a wide-array of interactive opportunities. \nKansas City Women in Technology will host a CoderDojo – just bring a laptop and join in to learn the basics of coding from experts in the field. The Microsoft Store will offer tools and tips for Kodu\, Microsoft’s free coding software platform. Youth librarians will work with patrons to create their own one picture digital story. Science City will offer on-site interactive learning with Little Bits and Arduino beginners’ kits. There’ll be an opportunity for geocaching with Garmin and learning more about the work of organizations like Connecting for Good and PlanIT Impact. \nDigital Learning Day will be hosted in conjunction with the library’s Gigabit City 2.0event\nRSVP appreciated (andreaellis@kclibrary.org)\, but not required \nIf you are an organization or individual that would like to participate in Digital Learning Day\, please complete this form at http://tinyurl.com/DLD2014 by January 29\, 2014.
