DESCRIPTION:Join us for our monthly coding series\, Coding & Cupcakes. Parents and daughters are invited to attend sessions to learn about code together. Attendees will learn how to program Jewelbots\, bluetooth enabled smart bracelets! \n\nOne ticket per parent/adult chaperone\nOne ticket per daughter – this includes your own Jewelbot!\nNo coding experience necessary\nOne wifi-enabled laptop per girl is required (see FAQs for requirements). Note: Jewelbots curriculum NOT compatible with Chromebooks).\nThe minumum age requirement is the ability to read\, type\, and use a mouse\nDelicious cupcakes from BabyCakes will be provided for coding fuel!\nPlease review Kansas City Women in Technology’s Code of Coduct\n\nFAQs \nWhat are Jewelbots? \nJewelbots are friendship bracelets for the iPhone era. Technology-enabled jewelry for tween and teen girls\, they’re a means of communicating with friends by lighting up when a BFF is near or buzzing to send messages to a pal across the school. \nWhat are Jewelbots coded in? \nC++ \nWhat is required to attend? \nA wifi-enabled laptop\, with windows\, linux\, or osx operating system and permissions to download software (Jewelbots curriculum is NOT compatible with Chromebooks) . We will be downloading the Arduino IDE to program our Jewelbots with. Be sure to bring a powercord and mouse if you prefer! \nHow does registration work? \nRegister for one ticket for your daughter\, and register for one parent/adult chaperone ticket. This ticket includes your very own Jewelbot + extra band! (Jewelbots retail at $69!) \nIf you’d like to bring several girls or attend the event with another pair\, our form does accommodate that by allowing you to specify the quantity during registration. \nAre there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? \nThe minimum age requirement is the ability to use a mouse\, as well as basic reading and computer typing skills. There is a worksheet provided for the parent/chaperone and daughter to work through\, with mentors on hand to assist with the more complex topics. \nWhat are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? \nStreet parking is available. \nDo I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? \nNo\, we do paperless check-in at the event. \nHow can I contact the organizer with any questions? \nEmail us at codingandcupcakes-team@kcwomenintech.org \nWhat’s the refund policy? \nRefunds must be requested 48 hours before the event.

DESCRIPTION:Session Topic: Programming Concepts 101: Introduction to JavaScript \nJoin us for our monthly coding series\, Coding & Cocktails. Women are invited to attend sessions to get an introduction to website building in a fun\, laid-back atmosphere. \nWe’ll build a programming foundation covering some of the basics like variables and data types. We’ll talk about what JavaScript is and why it is important to front-end developers along with how to incorporate JavaScript into a website.  We’ll practice working with JavaScript with support from our awesome mentors!! \nThere will be lots of guidance and support for those with no coding experience so come join the fun! \n\nNo coding experience necessary (we mean that!)\nWifi-enabled laptop is required (don’t have one? Borrow one of ours)\nMust be at least 21 to attend\nCocktails\, non-alcoholic beverages\, and dinner served\nPlease familiarize yourself with Kansas City Women in Technology’s Code of Conduct.\n\nDo you need financial assistance to attend? View codingandcocktails.kcwomenintech.org/financialaid for more information. \nIf you are unable to attend\, you must cancel 48 hours prior to the event to receive a refund!
